Tulum’s Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport is on track to set new benchmarks in passenger traffic, with projections aiming to exceed 1.3 million travelers by the end of 2025, according to Quintana Roo’s Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra.

Since its inauguration in December 2023, the airport has already moved over two million passengers—a milestone that underscores its fast-growing role as a key entry point to the Riviera Maya and southern Quintana Roo.

Authorities are now pursuing expanded connectivity not only within Mexico but with a particular focus on new direct routes from Europe and South America. These efforts include promotional alliances with airlines and the extension of airport fee incentives (TUA discounts), designed to make Tulum a more attractive and profitable destination for international carriers.

“There is a strong push to strengthen Tulum’s connectivity,” Cueto stated. “Incentives will remain in place for the next three years to support growth in both domestic and international routes.”

Expanding Route Network and Global Reach

Currently, Tulum International Airport operates 30 daily flights to major destinations, including three key domestic hubs—Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey—and five international cities: Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami, and San José, Costa Rica.

Plans are already in motion to announce new international routes in December, with particular interest in launching additional long-haul services that position Tulum as a more competitive hub in the Caribbean basin.

Cueto added that expanding connectivity will not only benefit the Riviera Maya and central Tulum, but also support nearby regions such as Maya Ka’an, Bacalar, Mahahual, and the wider Maya Zone of southern Quintana Roo.

The airport’s incentive program is complemented by strategic promotional campaigns from the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council, which continues to market the region’s new and existing routes to global travelers.

With its growth trajectory and expanded international outlook, Tulum is quickly becoming a critical gateway to the Mexican Caribbean, attracting new markets and opening broader opportunities for tourism, trade, and regional development.
