Hotel Occupancy in Quintana Roo Forecast Above 82% for Easter Holiday Season

With the official start of the Semana Santa holiday period, Quintana Roo is preparing for one of its busiest travel seasons of the year. Governor Mara Lezama reported that the state’s 12 main tourist destinations are expected to welcome more than 1.2 million visitors, generating an estimated economic impact of over $1 billion USD.
Speaking during her weekly program La Voz del Pueblo, Lezama said hotel occupancy across the Mexican Caribbean is projected to surpass 82%, reinforcing Quintana Roo’s position as one of Mexico’s strongest tourism regions. As part of the seasonal preparation, authorities will also activate the “Vacaciones Seguras” security operation, aimed at strengthening public safety and visitor support across key destinations.
Lezama also highlighted Quintana Roo’s growing international profile ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, noting that several national teams are expected to use the state as a training base. Portugal, she said, will reportedly train at the Mayakoba complex prior to its match against Mexico, while Uruguay is also expected to establish its training site in the same area.
In addition, the governor announced efforts to secure official Fan Fest events for the World Cup across multiple cities, including Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Bacalar, and Chetumal, allowing residents and visitors to experience the tournament atmosphere locally.
The Semana Santa outlook comes as municipal authorities in Cancún also prepare to intensify inspections and supervision in the hotel zone, ensuring businesses comply with regulations during the high season.
With strong occupancy forecasts, international visibility growing, and security measures underway, Quintana Roo is entering the holiday season with expectations of major tourism momentum.
