Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, has announced that four additional public beach access points will soon open in Tulum, reinforcing a broader strategy to protect free access to the coastline while strengthening the destination’s long-term tourism offering.

The new access points will be located within Jaguar Park, a federally managed area that integrates environmental conservation with recreational and tourism infrastructure. With these additions, Tulum will expand its network of public beach entrances, supporting both residents and visitors and helping reduce pressure during peak travel seasons.

Tourism authorities emphasized that public beach access has become a central component of the Mexican Caribbean’s development strategy. In recent months, Tulum has already incorporated several new access points, all designed with clear signage, visitor services, and connections to public spaces such as the coastal sports corridor. These areas allow free recreational use and provide direct contact with the sea without requiring entry through private developments.

In parallel, federal and local authorities continue to work with hotel operators along the coastal zone to identify opportunities for opening additional access routes where public entry is limited. This process follows federal regulations that establish public right-of-way requirements in areas lacking sufficient beach access.

An interagency assessment involving tourism, environmental, and urban development authorities is currently underway to evaluate which access points can be implemented responsibly. The review includes land-use planning considerations, regulatory updates, and coordination with municipal and state governments to ensure long-term viability.

The initiative also builds on a national effort that began in Tulum to formally document and register public beach access points across Mexico. Tourism officials have reiterated that access to the coastline is a public right and a foundational element of sustainable destination management.

By expanding free and clearly defined access to its beaches, Tulum continues to balance growth with social equity, environmental stewardship, and a tourism model designed to benefit both the local community and the broader visitor economy.
