The municipality of Tulum has officially launched a significant road rehabilitation project along its main coastal corridor, aimed at enhancing access for tourists visiting the area's hotels, restaurants, beach clubs, and shops. The initiative was announced by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo and marks a key step in improving Tulum’s infrastructure to match its rapid tourism growth.

The first phase of the project includes the resurfacing of 1.5 kilometers of road between the Kore Hotel and the iconic Tulum Arch. With an estimated investment of 10 million pesos, the project goes beyond basic repaving — it also includes sidewalk expansions, eco-friendly street lighting, proper signage, and green area reforestation.

“This roadwork will greatly improve circulation in the hotel zone, which is the economic and tourist heart of Tulum,” said Castañón. “It’s about more than infrastructure — it's about creating dignified public spaces for both our residents and visitors.”

The improvements are expected to enhance overall mobility and safety in the area, helping to strengthen the visitor experience and support local businesses. The hotel zone, a focal point of the Riviera Maya, is frequently congested during peak travel seasons, and officials believe the road upgrades will provide much-needed relief.

In tandem with this project, the municipal government is also stepping up efforts to keep beaches clean and secure. As part of the city’s environmental strategy, four new all-terrain vehicles were recently delivered to the staff of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) to assist with beach surveillance and sargassum cleanup operations.

“These quad bikes are part of our ongoing commitment to give our teams the tools they need to work more efficiently,” said Juan Antonio Garza, Director of Zofemat. “Keeping Tulum’s beaches safe and clean is essential for our tourism economy and quality of life.”

Together, these initiatives reflect the administration’s broader vision for a more accessible, sustainable, and tourist-friendly Tulum, as it continues its transformation into one of Mexico’s most important global destinations.
